Teaching notes
Stochastic effects (LNT): probability of harm rises linearly with dose starting from zero — no threshold. LQ adds a dose² term important at therapy doses. Deterministic effects: threshold below which incidence is zero, then rises sigmoidally. Pick the right curve for counseling — diagnostic imaging (mGy range) rarely reaches deterministic thresholds, so conversations are stochastic.
